Fluoride

Some people disapprove of having fluoride in their water because they simply don’t know what it is. Some other people disapprove of having fluoride in their water because they want a natural water with no added extras. Most people approve to have it added to their tooth paste and drinking water, because it is a dental aid.

I think that adding fluoride to drinking water is a great idea due to the fact that it really helps your teeth and gums. Why do we use toothpaste? To protect our teeth. One of the main “ingredients” in tooth paste is fluoride, so why not have an extra aid and add fluoride to our water? I can understand that people don’t want it added because they don’t know what it is, but they should look into it and see how much help it could bring.

The technological advances that needed to be made was that companies needed to find a compatible compound with fluoride. This compound needed to be abrasive, which means that it needed to be a substance that could help polish and aid the teeth. The toothpaste company, Crest, was the first company to find the abrasive, compatible compound in 1955. This led to Crest’s high market standings for more than 10 years.

The only side-affect that really catches my attention is the affect of overuse. If you overuse fluoride, or use too much, it can damage or stain your teeth. All other effects seem positive to me. Also there really aren’t many side effects when adding fluoride to water because fluoride minimizes chances of side effects.
